Am always amazed when I see people frown at women wearing trousers and it's mostly hypocritical, 'cause same people wear trousers in their homes.
Back at the University, I've had to challenge some sisters from another Campus Christian fellowship who I noticed wore trousers and shorts in their hostels while condemning other sister who wore trousers publicly. Their answer was that they could wear it privately but not publicly. For me, that was hypocritical. Why condemn something that you also engage in? It's like saying you can steal privately but not publicly for instance.
The location doesn't matter, if wearing trouser is wrong, then it's wrong, no matter where, why or when you wear it, period!
Clearly, there's no reference in the Bible where women wearing trousers was condemned. They will only point back at Deuteronomy 22:5 ...women should not wear that which pertains to a man.... And vice-versa.
However, the big question will be, was trousers and gown, skirt specifically made for men or women? The answer is a big NO.
At the time this scripture was written, trousers were not even a popular fashion and everybody, men/women wore gowns/skirts. So it's wrong to tie TROUSERS to that scripture which obviously was intended to address some other issues.
My take is that there are gowns and skirts designed with men in mind, While there are also trousers and shirts designed with women in mind.
Where I come from, men are fond of wearing wrappers, gowns are worn by men in the middle east, while skirts are a popular men fashion in some places in Europe.
